PAEDIATRIC OSTEOPATHY - Live Workshop

Treating newborns, toddlers and young children can be one of the most rewarding experiences in your life as a manual osteopath. The goal of this paediatric workshop is to give you enough knowledge and confidence to treat newborns and toddlers in your clinic.

We will go through labour, birth presentations and delivery and see how they relate to osteopathic treatments. We will look at developmental milestones during the first year of life and red-flags to watch out for. I will also show you how to communicate with the infant and her/his parents.

We will explain neonatal anatomy, and here especially the neonatal cranium and what happens during its passage through the birth canal. We will discuss common birth traumas (plagiocephaly, shoulder distocia, etc), complications at birth and medical interventions. All this will help us find different approaches to the neonatal, infant or child treatment.

Paediatric Osteopathic Principles can be applied to children ages 0-7, so we will also talk about how to approach children in these ages. I will give you practical tips on how to break the ice and establish a good relationship with your patient and his/her parent(s). Remember, you will always communicate with at least two people at the same time when you treat children.

When all this is said and done, we will look into specific techniques and integrations that are tailored to children, which you will be able to add into your existing repertoire.

I will try to organize a full treatment of a newborn or infant, and a child. You will be able to watch the entire treatment, followed by a debriefing in class for questions that come up. I find that observing a treatment is one of the best ways of learning.
